TRAI Limits Processing Fee On Mobile TopUp Vouchers

Telecom regulator TRAI on Monday, 01 October, 2012 said that
Processing Fee levied on TopUp Vouchers should not exceed 10% of
maximum retail price of coupon or Rs. 3, whichever is lett. This
amendment of Telecom Tariff Order would provide relief to prepaid
mobile users recharging with lower denomination of TopUp vouchers.

90% of customers in India use Prepaid Mobile Service. Processing Fee
is included in the MRP of a Recharge Coupon used by Prepaid Mobile
Users.

At present, Processing Fee charged for TopUps of Rs. 20 and above is
Rs. 3 while for TopUps below Rs. 20, it is Rs. 2.
